background
Internet regulation is among the most debated topics affecting the digital world. Most recently, in the United States, the U.S. Federal Communications Commission repealed regulations preventing the blocking of legal content or throttling of Internet data transfer speeds, among many other implications. Additionally, in March 2017, the U.S. Senate blocked legislation that would prohibit the collection and selling of customer web usage data by Internet service providers. The repercussions of the current states-of-play in U.S. regulation over net neutrality and data mining have most notably impacted customer privacies, Internet usage affordability, and the 2016 Presidential elections. The U.S. is among the many countries worldwide experiencing policy challenges implementing regulations of the Internet.
